Mxolisi Mbetse, Chairman of IDG (Strategic Partner)

Mxolisi has had a distinguished career in finance in South Africa and ample international dealmaking experience. Previously with UBS Corporate Finance and HSBC in South Africa, Mxolisi subsequently founded the Industrial Development Group, with Rand Merchant Bank and various BEE groups as shareholders. IDG is active in various projects across sub-Saharan Africa in natural resources and agricultural sectors.

James Pockney, Chief Executive Officer

James has over twenty years of experience of developing businesses, investing and operating in emerging and frontier markets. He has founded and successfully listed two energy infrastructure companies operating in Russia and India: Baltic Petroleum and Indian Energy. James also has extensive experience in developing businesses in Africa, having built a pan-African TV network and through investing in natural resource projects across the continent.

Luka Buljan, Chief Operating Officer

Luka is an experienced developer of power projects with a track record in two start-up emerging markets power companies. Formerly he was CEO of Empower and Director, Business Development at Globeleq, both wholly owned by Actis, a large private equity fund. Luka has developed, and implemented, financed, bought, restructured and sold power plants and electricity businesses across Africa.

Chris Head, Senior Hydro-Electric Advisor

Chris is a renowned hydroelectric expert with extensive African experience. He has worked on numerous large-scale hydro projects across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, and has a long-established record of advising governments, utilities, the leading multilaterals including the World Bank, and private clients. Formerly a Partner and Director of Knight Piesold, Chris brings over 30 years of experience in the sector.

Peter Rae, Project Director

Peter has over thirty years of experience in planning, designing and building large hydro projects around the world. He has worked in a variety of roles for IPP developers, power utilities, engineering firms and contractors, government agencies and international lenders in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Peter is a civil engineer by background, but has ample commercial experience relevant to successful project leadership.

Giuseppe Carbone, Power Engineering Advisor

Giuseppe is an engineer and manager with over three decades of experience of delivering projects, often in very challenging circumstances. In his career with large oil and gas, power generation and industrial firms, he has worked extensively in Africa, including the Congo, DRC, Nigeria and Cameroon. Giuseppe is an electrical engineer by training and a certified HSE officer.

Steve Usher, Environmental and Social Manager

Steve is an expert for environmental and social issues in hydropower development. He has held hands-on roles on projects in South East Asia, where he coordinated and led community and environmental programmes and initiatives. Steve previously worked for UNESCO and holds the position of Deputy Editor at the International Journal of Hydropower and Dams.

Stelios Vassileou, Financial Controller

Stelios has a track record of over 15 years in finance roles in the power sector, with significant experience of business start-ups, construction and operation. Previously Stelios was CFO at Empower, Head of Finance (Africa) at Globeleq and held various finance and management positions in the AES Corporation in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Nicolas Rouzé, Country Manager (Congo)

Nicolas has had a long career in oil and gas sector with Halliburton, Scomi and Better Oil Tools, for whom he has carried out various technical, operational and commercial roles. He has lived in the Congo for 14 years and is very knowledgeable on its geology and geography. Nicolas holds a degree in engineering and an MSc in applied mathematics and fluid dynamics. He is a French and Congolese national.
